The "Moral Shift"
Wow, what an amazing election. I finally went to bed in the wee hours of the night and now it is all over. I must admit that I am surprised. I was worried that Sen. Kerry was going to prevail and if he did lose, it would be by a narrow margin. I never expected Bush to get an excess of 3 million popular votes - and Florida and Ohio to boot.
I must say that every news station I watched and on the talk radios this morning one phrase kept coming up again and again, that there has been a "moral shift". Sure terror and Iraq were major issues, but right up there were the issues of abortion and gay marriages . There was a strong grassroots campaign amongst evangelical Christians and faithful Catholics to stand up for moral issues that are constant, whether you are a believer or not.
This is a heartening moment for all of us who have been worried about the direction of the culture, and although the battle is far from over, it does give us a bit of a "home advantage" in the next few years. So let's get on our knees and thank God, and after a little celebrating, get to work to continue building the kingdom of Christ. Blessed be God!
PS - And a special thanks to all those who worked overtime to educate their fellow Catholics, as well as fellow citizens, particularly Fr. Frank Pavone of Priests for Life, EWTN and Catholic Answers (particularly Jimmy Akins on crud patrol). You shall be blessed!
UPDATE: Here's an interesting article about this point. Moral issues drove voters - Christian advocates, media pundits agree on believers' impact.

I'm so happy for Bush's victory!! He is a such a good man. Our family prayed and fasted for the election, because the US presidency affects not just Americans but the whole world. I'm thrilled that America will continue to stand up for human rights and the sanctity of life.
Congratulations to you all and God bless President Bush!!
