Get Over It

Okay, for the people like the guy in NY who committed suicide in “protest” of the election and for the Kerry supporters in therapy over the election, all I can say is you need to get over it. Politics should not be your religion and daily breath.

Granted I would have been depressed Nov 3 had Kerry won but I wouldn’t be wallowing because I know a politician will never be a country’s savior. Only Christ is King and Savior. Whether you are a democrat or republican, our country has great things about it and things that desperately need changing. There’s a lot of hope but there’s also a lot of work. So instead of complaining, or gloating, start with your own life and work your way up.

"We just didn't get the message out"

No, that's not why Kerry lost. Demecrats got their message out loud and clear. That is why you were defeated - the message was rejected.

And with that in mind, Carville says - Democratic Party must be 'born again' (Or at least get back to its original intent.)

The Real Loser

A great piece from Peggy Noonan - So Much to Savor: A big win for America, and a loss for the mainstream media.

The "Moral Shift"

Wow, what an amazing election. I finally went to bed in the wee hours of the night and now it is all over. I must admit that I am surprised. I was worried that Sen. Kerry was going to prevail and if he did lose, it would be by a narrow margin. I never expected Bush to get an excess of 3 million popular votes - and Florida and Ohio to boot.

I must say that every news station I watched and on the talk radios this morning one phrase kept coming up again and again, that there has been a "moral shift". Sure terror and Iraq were major issues, but right up there were the issues of abortion and gay marriages . There was a strong grassroots campaign amongst evangelical Christians and faithful Catholics to stand up for moral issues that are constant, whether you are a believer or not.

This is a heartening moment for all of us who have been worried about the direction of the culture, and although the battle is far from over, it does give us a bit of a "home advantage" in the next few years. So let's get on our knees and thank God, and after a little celebrating, get to work to continue building the kingdom of Christ. Blessed be God!

PS - And a special thanks to all those who worked overtime to educate their fellow Catholics, as well as fellow citizens, particularly Fr. Frank Pavone of Priests for Life, EWTN and Catholic Answers (particularly Jimmy Akins on crud patrol). You shall be blessed!

UPDATE: Here's an interesting article about this point. Moral issues drove voters - Christian advocates, media pundits agree on believers' impact.

Proud of Our Spiritual Troops

I just came across an excellent blog today called The Meandering Mind of a Seminarian. Be sure to read his entries regarding the peaceful protests at Kerry events entitled Pro-Life Witness: How It Happened - Parts I & Part II. I'm proud of these future priests fighting for life, particularly in their ability to model Christ in his silent suffering.

San Francisco or Bust

Okay, I wasn't the only one creeped out by the chummy pics of Kerry and Edwards. Jimmy Akin thought the same thing when he asked Did Kerry Just Get Married Or Something?

Truth or Urban Legend?

There's an email making the rounds about Ray Reynolds, a National Guardsman serving in Iraq. His letter chronicles U.S. accomplishments in rebuilding Iraq and takes to task all the negative reporting of the media and politicians. Although I may agree with some of his sentiments, I am pretty skeptical when it comes to these forwarded emails so I checked it out. If you've been curious too, find out more here: Urban Legend Reference Website.

Faith and Politics

My sister EC in DC sent me this interesting article from Time Magazine - A Test of Kerry's Faith: The candidate's policies are at odds with church canon. Will there be a price to pay?

And when I found out the other day that Kerry voted AGAINST the Fetal Homocide Bill, I thought to myself that Scott Peterson would be happy to hear it. Well Jeff Miller at The Curt Jester mirrored those thoughts when he put this together:

Politics and Religion

I love my in-laws dearly but I dread when they and their friends talk politics while we are at their home. Until the last couple years, I've never given politics much thought. I come from a family that is very republican while Brian's relatives are staunch democrats. Personally, we find good and bad points in both parties but vote republican mostly due to moral issues.

Well, last night Brian’s family watched 60 Minutes with Clark talking against Bush and his treatment of 9/11 and terrorism etc. I offered to wash the dishes after dinner so I would not have to sit there and listen to all their vile remarks about Bush and Republicans in general. There is no arguing with them and some things are best left alone.

After hearing the show, I am highly skeptical of Clark's assertions, especially considering his demotion, the timing of the book (election year), his connection with Kerry and the "promotion" of it on 60 Minutes (who's parent company has a financial stake in the book). I am not a blind supporter of Bush but I am much more prone to approve than disapprove of him. It's no doubt Clark's book will do damage to Bush's campaign and I am happy to see that the White House Rebuts Former Adviser's 9/11 Claims.

There are numerous issues to consider during this election year, but forefront for many Catholics and Christians are the pro-life and pro-family issues. The economy is always in flux and world issues are complicated, but I find it far more troubling that there is a strong and powerful movement to promote an ungodly agenda that attacks Christian values, as well as the sanctity of life and the sanctity of marriage.
